Don't Panic!

not sure if any of you have seen these about, but normally they are full of rubbish flyers...

Don't Panic packs can often be found somewhere round the northern quarter in manchester (i used to find them in Picc. Records or Forbidden Planet etc) but i always loved the cover artwork and some posters... well...whilst looking for freelance jobs/briefs to attempt in my spare time, it turns out anyone can actually submit work for their covers and posters... so... if any of you fancy gettin' your work out there... give it a shot.. (i will be doin... eventually...)

Videogame Nation

Just a post to make people aware of 'Videogame Nation' an exhibition currently running at Urbis. The exhibition includes examples of games dating back to the 1980s when gaming really started to take off and also gives a view to what computer games mean now and their place in society today. It was great being able to play on games that i played on as a child but to also read about the people behind them. Computer gaming is becoming more accessible to the masses with the console moving out of the bedroom into the living room played on by the family rather than just the child.

Eleanor Stewart

This animation I saw at New Blood really blew me away, done by a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Eleanor Stewart. The work was so simple yet obviously had been very time-consuming and technical to make it work. It was a beautiful response to the music. I hope she does really well and get lots of work. RCA Show 2009

While down at New Blood, I did a whistle stop tour of the RCA show. Here is a link to the website. It is well worth a look. The drawing was stunning and presented very professionally.

Penguin Design Awards

Just an update on Pete Adlington's winning design - on the Penguin Design Awards website are some comments made the judges as to why this work was selected. You can also see the other entries which include Natalie Wood from Year 2, who was Highly Commended.

I recently saw this touring exhibition at MIMA in Middlesborough and it’s now showing at the Bluecoat gallery in Liverpool. Go and see it if you can. It’s a collection of contemporary drawing, crossing mediums in animation, sound and installation by 11 contemporary artists. It’s a Hayward Gallery / Drawing Room initiative: so a good guarantee of quality.
